KATWARN is a service app, which informs the population of accidents and disasters (e.g. large-scale fires, power cuts, bomb alerts or pandemics) in Germany. The KATWARN app offers location-based warnings and suggested actions for the current location and for seven additional freely selectable 'KATWARN districts'. If necessary, this selection can be canceled, changed and switch off any time.
KATWARN warnings are issued by the responsible emergency management agencies e.g. in coordination with local fire departments or emergency services. Furthermore the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst DWD) also used the KATWARN app for the highest category of national weather warnings in case of severe and extreme weather events with possible far reaching effects on humans and their surroundings.
