More About SeaVan
The app fetches border crossing data from Canadian and US government feeds. By default, SeaVan auto-refreshes the data every 3 minutes, which is roughly how often the source feeds are updated. You can turn off the auto-refresh if you like (in the app’s settings page). You can also tap the ‘refresh’ button any time you want to get the latest data.
If you tap on any of the individual crossing names, this will fire up Bing to give you directions from your current location to the selected crossing. You can turn off location services in the app’s settings page, in which case the Bing directions feature is disabled.
On the settings page, you can also turn on/off individual crossing lane types. Finally, you can turn on/off the flip animation for the primary tile.
The links page provides links to more Seattle/Vancouver traffic data, plus the raw XML data that is used in the main view.
SeaVan is a minimalist app, that works well on versions 7.1, 7.1.1, 7.8 and 8.0. It uses only a tiny amount of memory and CPU resources. It uses data services to fetch the wait times – so if you typically turn off cellular roaming when you're on the 'other' side of the border, and you don't have a WiFi connection, then you won't get updated times until you get back to your ‘home’ side of the border.
